"The Midfield House" C1877. An absolutely unique property that rarely is available. In the 1840's the Cobourg Turf Club constructed a race course on this property. After the club was disbanded the land was bought by Roderick Pringle, a local lawyer, who built a residence on it in 1877. Pringle was an active member of the Conservative Party and a friend of Sir John A. MacDonald. In 1905 the property was sold to George Howe of Pittsburg who remodeled it as a summer residence and gave it the name "Midfield". The notable architectural features referred to in its designation as a Heritage Property are the Palladian window in the west wall and the colonnade of the south verandah. |
